You
can create and store as many files as you need. These
files
will be stored in the GEDCOM format, making it easier to share information
between different programs, and eliminates the need to back up your file into a
different format. You may want to create a new file when you:
Record information for the first time about your family.
Create a temporary file before merging it with your
existing database.
Following multiple ancestry lines, i.e. one file following
birth line and a second file following an adopted line.
Note:
MagiKey Family Tree does allow the recording of multiple
parent
information for individuals, but if you want to track both the birth
and adopted ancestry, then each line needs to be handles as different
files.
Researching a potential line. Sometimes you may
discover an individual that you are unsure as to their exact
relationship. You can start a new file to follow that line
and
then merge it into your main database when you are ready.
Step 1.
From the File
menu select New or type <CTRL>+N.
Step 2.
The Edit
New Individual Information window appears.
Type in the information for the first
individual. Click OK.
Step 3.
From the File menu select Save
As... and create a name and folder location for your file.
