What is the Place Index?
The Place
Index stores all place names used in your database for any
type of event or attribute. You can search via Alphabetical or Hierarchical.
Once
you have selected a location record from the list, the following
options are available:
| events at this location |
rename |
html event report |
hide |
look up normalized place names |
Why is a Place Index Helpful?
- Adding jurisdictions to places, such as a city or a county, to a
location selected in the index is much quicker than correcting a place
name one record at a time.
- Correcting misspelled place names in the Place Index changes all records linked with that location.
Example Mi, Mich, Michigan, Michigian can be corrected as Michigan
- Normalize places using new FamilySearch.
Example Tecumseh, Mi, USA is changed to Tecumseh, Lenawee, Michigan, United States
- Print a report of records linked to a particular
place.
