Manage Data Tools

Search- Find your ancestor using the reverse look-up by any of the following categories: Individual, Location, Source, Progenitor, Submitter or Repository.
Merge- Smoothly merges databases, Individuals, Places, Sources, Submitter, or Repository without losing any information stored in your GEDCOM file. If an exact match is not found, it lets you choose which information to keep.
Place Normalization via FamilySearch- Once connected to FamilySearch.org you can standardize your locations. This reduces the time looking up counties that cities are located in. It also shows places in a hierarchical (geographical) view for easy searching.
Subsets- Make subsets of groups to help you focus on a specific line or do Temple Work.
Find Anomalies- Informs you of missing data or when dates (i.e. death date before birth date) don't seem logical based on adjustable settings.

LDS Features

Access your FamilySearch information from within the MagiKey Family Tree. Use your Login and Password from new.familysearch.org to search FamilySearch and Social Security index.
View the Temple Ordinance Status for your ancestors to find work that still needs to be completed.
Download ordinances already performed into your database, including the FamilySearch Identifer number.
Reserve Temple Ordinances by individual or as a family: for either yourself or to a specific temple.
Merge your database up to FamilySearch without retyping in your information.
Maintain a searchable database of individuals and families; including vital events, marriages, occupations, census information, LDS ordinance information, sources and repositories. Browse individuals or notes by source. Research by location, with easy to use “place” browser.

GEDCOM

What is GEDCOM?

GEDCOM is the native file format used by MagiKey FamilyTree. GEDCOM files are written in plain text, and use the extension .ged to indicate they follow the GEDCOM standard.

GEDCOM is an acronym meaning GEnealogical Data COMmunication. It is a standard that was developed by the Family History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to enable the exchanging of data between genealogy program.

MagiKey Family Tree recognizes and uses the Standard GEDCOM version 5.5, with some additions for local use. You can export files from MagiKey Family Tree which remove these locally modifications to be more easily used by other programs.

Views- Pedigree View is used for navigation. Other views include: Family Group Sheet, Descendancy View, Census Tracker, and Timeline.
Searchable Indexes or Reverse Look-up- Individuals Given name and Surname, Places, Sources, Progenitors, Repositories, and Submitters.
GEDCOM based- Don't worry about losing data when transferring information to other programs or reading other programs exported GEDCOM files.
Automatically Linked- Family members are linked as you add them. It supports multiple types of parents, multiple spouses, and multiple names per individual.
Automatically checks for duplicates as you add people but allows the user to determine whether to keep or merge them for research purposes.
Spelling Memory- Remembers what you type, and can fill in the remainder of a place or name typed in. It does not come with a pre-assigned name spelling list.
